TO ALL THE NEW MEMBERS – A WARM WELCOME to the Fountain Valley High School Royal Regiment.  This will be the beginning of a quick four years of fun, excitement, and growth.  To all of our returning members – It’s up to you all to make this year fun, memorable and your best year ever.  I know the seniors will work hard and show the proper leadership to achieve their goals this year taking an exciting path.  Do what my staff says and you will achieve!  The more you learn now the easier it will be during the school year.  As you know, Field Camp is from August 11 –Aug 23 (9am-6:30pm). Parents & friends, please attend out END OF CAMP PERFORMANCE at 3pm on August 23 at the FV Stadium. You will see and hear the quality of our show after only two weeks.  Aug 18 has a special camp time from 1:30-7:00pm

We will continue our very special tradition of excellence and fun… high energy music and superior visual design.  I would like to thank our summer staff for their time during the summer rehearsals: Mark Irons, John Mapes, Ian Grom, Jesse Minor (new member marching workshop), Jenn Johnson, Jim Goodrich Chuck Drinkworth, and Omar Vidana.  I also thank the many coaches assisting the staff.  This is where the real success begins for our season.  The success of our field camp is driven from the effort given during the summer.  Good job to all! Those of you on long vacations…you need to do a little more during camp to catch up.

We have an awesome group of parents working on Regiment projects and administration. We will need even more parents ready to start working on projects during our camp. Remember to enroll in the Albertson and Ralph Community Program.  Send your card numbers to Janet Biegner, VP of Ways & Means.  Mr. Irons and I have been very busy this summer preparing for camp and this fall season with lots of improvements and new projects.  The Staff is doing a great job making our show “Cinematic” the best ever.  We thank Ian Grom for a great concept and music.  You will experience this Move Theater Concept at a tournament near you!
I have a very professional staff with years of experience willing to provide instruction and leadership to enhance our music program starting during camp. Associate Band Director and Marching Band Director is Mark Irons. Our percussion caption head and battery composer is John Mapes.  Front Ensemble caption head and music composer is Ian Grom. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Music is about emotion. You will learn your part when you decide to commit.  Commit from the heart. Be responsible!  Take responsibility for your actions.  When you feel like not doing something, that’s the time to do it! Set your goals and never look back. Work hard and work smart…you will then have fun. You will succeed and you will fail.  Don’t be afraid to fail, but be ready to learn. Learn from the heart.  Emotion brought you to our program... the fun, the friends, the excitement, the dreams! Make a difference and help someone.  Be responsible and feel the emotion.  Only then will you be able to make music.
We choose to have a first class program that competes against the best groups in the country. We also choose to have the instrumental groups perform works by the world's greatest composers and original music from the most talented marching band composers is the USA. That takes the collaborative effort of many talented minds. We have the choice to be good, very good, or to excel.  We choose to excel !

THE FVRR CODE (is now ready) The CODE will explain everything you need to know during the year, awards, scholarships, procedures, grades, spring ensemble information, RREC duties, etc.  The code starts with the following:

Fountain Valley High School Royal Regiment, as a class at school, will require the same diligence and attentiveness as any other subject.  Winds & Percussion, Color Guard or Orchestra, as an activity will require that "something extra" which only you can offer.  This means your extra effort, extra time, and extra responsibility.

There are three words that will stick with you while you're in the Regiment, and will hopefully follow you through the rest of your life.  They are PRIDE, DEDICATION, and RESPONSIBILITY.

PRIDE
You must have pride in everything you do, this means always trying your best and believing in yourself and others.  You'll know the meaning of pride when people are applauding you and chills go              up and down your back. It's a feeling you will never forget.

DEDICATION
Anything worth wanting is worth working for.  Being in an outstanding performance unit requires sacrifice on everyone's part. This means to commit yourself to practice a little more, be on time, and plan ahead.  You are going to have many experiences and memories from the Regiment, but you must also give of yourself for each other team work.

RESPONSIBILITY
Every Royal Regiment member is important. We all depend on you.  Don't let everyone else down by being late, being absent or by not
giving respect to everyone – including yourself.

High school can be one of the best times of your life.  Make the most of it!  We have an outstanding high school and a great organization - it's up to you to help continue these traditions.  Be proud of the Regiment, help make the Regiment proud of you, and above all - have pride in yourself.

With that, lets all have a great time together having fun performing for ourselves, our friends, our parents, and thousands at every performance.
